Castleton

Castleton is one of the Peak District’s most picturesque villages, nestled beneath Mam Tor and surrounded by dramatic limestone hills. It’s a hub for history, geology, and gentle adventure—with cobbled lanes, cosy pubs, and four spectacular show caverns to explore.

Guests can wander the village, visit the ruins of Peveril Castle (built in 1086), or delve underground at Peak Cavern, Speedwell Cavern (via boat), Treak Cliff Cavern, and Blue John Cavern—each offering unique formations and stories. Castleton is also the only place in the world where the semi-precious Blue John stone is mined.

Whether arriving via the dramatic Winnats Pass or walking the Great Ridge above, Castleton offers a rich blend of natural wonder and heritage. It’s ideal for a half-day trip or a full day if combining walks and cave visits.
