Bamford Edge Sunset With Vibrant Purple Heather.

Bamford & Stanage Edge Circular Walk

(Moderate, 5.7 miles, ~2.5-3.5 hours)

This scenic circular walk links two of the Peak District’s most iconic gritstone escarpments—Bamford Edge and Stanage Edge—offering dramatic views over Ladybower Reservoir, the Hope Valley, and surrounding moorland. Starting near Hathersage, the route climbs steadily to Bamford Edge, where sweeping vistas and striking rock formations await. From there, it curves across open moorland to Stanage Edge, a historic climbing destination dotted with abandoned millstones and Bronze Age cairns.

The terrain is varied but manageable, with well-defined paths and occasional rocky sections. Highlights include High Neb (Stanage’s highest point), panoramic viewpoints, and the chance to spot wildlife like curlews and ring ouzels. It’s a rewarding half-day walk for guests seeking rugged beauty and Peak District drama without technical difficulty.
